UPDATE (May 1): McIntosh Mayor Wilbert Dixon has responded<\/a> to BASF\u2019s plan to cut half its workforce.<\/p>\n PREVIOUS REPORTING<\/p>\n WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG<\/a>) \u2014 BASF in McIntosh will be laying off half of its staff after stopping multiple production lines at the site.<\/p>\n Wilmer family murders update: Suspect enters plea <\/a><\/p>\n According to BASF officials, 100 of the 200 people who work there will be affected.<\/p>\n \u201cBASF\u00a0will cease operation of multiple production lines at its McIntosh, Alabama, site by the end of the first quarter 2027,\u201d a company news release said.<\/p>\n \u201cThe site currently produces specialty chemicals marketed by BASF\u2019s Performance Chemicals division, serving the plastics and automotive industries.\u201d<\/p>\n The site will continue to operate, but at a \u201creduced footprint.\u201d<\/p>\n The release said the cut is due to an \u201congoing commitment to operating its core businesses in a cost-efficient manner\u201d to stay competitive in the market.<\/p>\n
