An impressive 5,465 units were sold across the first four months of the year, well above the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class at 3,012, the BMW 7-Series and i7 at 2,976, and the regular Mercedes S-Class at 2,596.

The S800 has plenty of domestic company at the top end. The Nio ET9 sits seventh on the year with 438 units, and the YangWang U7 SUV follows close behind at 412. Chinese buyers, given a credible local option, are walking away from the badges that defined the segment for a generation.

The Chinese Are Flocking To Local Brands

Sales of the Maextro S800 have remained strong since its introduction last year.
