Yes, it does,” Miller was quoted as saying, adding that denying the impact of automation on labour would be unrealistic.

The development highlights how global logistics companies are increasingly integrating robotics and artificial intelligence into warehouse operations amid persistent labour shortages, rising e-commerce volumes and pressure to improve productivity.

Welcome to Logistics Insider

Click to listen highlighted text!
Welcome to Logistics Insider

Click to listen highlighted text!

According to the report, DHL began making major investments in robotics in 2017 and now uses automation across a range of warehouse functions, including picking, packaging and inventory movement. The company evaluates repetitive manual processes and works with robotics vendors to develop systems capable of handling those tasks more efficiently.

As robotics adoption expands, warehouse roles are also evolving. DHL said employees are increasingly being shifted toward robot supervision, system monitoring and data-driven operational management supported by AI-enabled platforms.

Miller said technologies such as computer vision are allowing logistics operators to capture and analyse warehouse data in real time, improving decision-making and operational visibility. One of the systems highlighted was Carter, an AI-enabled collaborative robot developed by Robust.AI that can navigate warehouse floors while avoiding obstacles and workers using camera-based mapping.

DHL currently works with robotics firms including Locus Robotics, Boston Dynamics and Robust.AI as part of its automation strategy. Miller said maintaining relationships with multiple robotics providers helps reduce operational risk in a fast-changing robotics market dominated by startups.

The company pilots robotics solutions across facilities in Europe, North America and Asia before scaling successful technologies across its global network of approximately 2,800 sites. Many of these trials are conducted in segregated warehouse zones to ensure worker safety during live operational testing.

The broader logistics sector has been steadily increasing investments in warehouse automation as companies seek to address workforce shortages and rising fulfilment expectations. Recent advances in robotic unloading systems and AI-powered warehouse automation are enabling machines to handle physically demanding warehouse tasks that were previously difficult to automate.

Industry analysts say robotics adoption is expected to accelerate further over the next few years as supply chains become more data-driven and labour-intensive operations face mounting cost pressures.

DHL Supply Chain has deployed more than 8,000 robotics systems across its operations worldwide, accelerating automation inside warehouses…

[21057
21073,21072,3512,23455
post-20606","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-dhl","tag-deutsche-post","tag-dhl","tag-supply-chain","tag-warehousing
["GET
