The new 15 MW Vestas turbine is being used for the first time.

The installation vessel ‘Wind Orca’ transported the components for three wind turbines at a time from the port of Esbjerg in Denmark to the wind farm and placed them on the foundations installed in the seabed. EnBW plans to build and commission all wind turbines by the summer of 2026.

The installation vessel Wind Orca is being loaded with components for the He Dreiht offshore wind farm in the port of Esbjerg. For more than 15 years, we at EnBW have been driving the advancement of offshore wind energy. With every new milestone, we are moving one step closer to a sustainable energy future’ explained Peter Heydecker, Board Member for Sustainable Generation Infrastructure at EnBW.

The wind farm boasts a total output of 960 MW and is being built about 85 kilometers northwest of Borkum and 110 kilometers west of Heligoland. A single rotation of the rotor on the 15 MW turbine can cover the daily electricity needs of four households. The annual electricity generated by the entire wind farm will meet the needs of around 1.1 million households. The major project is being coordinated by EnBW’s offshore office in Hamburg.

EnBW He Dreiht: Construction work on Germany’s largest offshore wind farm reaches halfway stage

Photo: The installation vessel Wind Orca has installed a wind turbine from the He Dreiht offshore wind farm and is heading to the next location.
