Following Dara\u2019s win<\/a> at the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna, German broadcaster SWR has confirmed that it will participate at next year\u2019s edition of the contest.<\/p>\n

More diversity needed in Germany\u2019s selection<\/p>\n

Germany\u2019s participation in the competition was confirmed before the Contest even took place in Vienna in May. Speaking to ESCkompakt<\/a>, new German Head of Delegation Tina Sikorski confirmed that a national final would be taking place next year.<\/p>\n

Speaking on the results of the national final, Tina said that SWR was \u201cquite satisfied\u201d with how the selection came out, hoping to attract more professional artists to compete. After the Contest in Vienna, Tina took to her LinkedIn to give her thoughts on the final results, saying more work now needs to be done. She explained:<\/p>\n

Overall, SWR and ARD can consider ESC 2026 a major success. At the same time, that does not mean we do not want to keep improving. For 2027, we aim to further optimize our formats and processes. We want to deliver outstanding content that reaches even more people. And of course, we are striving for a better result for the German act in the ESC Grand Final.<\/p>\n

To achieve this, we will continue pursuing our path of close and trusting collaboration with the music industry, while offering reliable and sustainable opportunities and platforms for artists. Our goals for the ESC 2027 act and song selection are to attract even more highly talented acts to the German preselection, encourage greater stylistic diversity beyond mainstream pop, and include more songs that are \u201csomehow different\u201d and truly stand out.<\/p>\n

No exact details have yet been released about Germany\u2019s upcoming selection and how the artist will be determined. <\/p>\n

Germany\u2019s Eurovision journey<\/p>\n

Germany has been part of Eurovision since the beginning, debuting in 1956. Their debut entries were Walter Andreas Schwarz\u2019s \u201cIm Wartesaal zum gro\u00dfen Gl\u00fcck\u201d and Freddy Quinn\u2019s \u201cSo geht das jede Nacht\u201d. Germany has appeared at every Eurovision except for 1996, which means they have been at more Contests than any other country. They have a long history of success in Eurovision, finishing in the top 3 an impressive 13 times. Germany has won the contest twice: Nicole won in 1982 with her song \u201cEin bi\u00dfchen Frieden\u201d, taking home 161 points. Their second win came in 2010, when Lena scored 246 points with her song \u201cSatellite\u201d.<\/p>\n

Germany\u2019s most recent Eurovision entry was Sarah Engels with \u201cFire\u201d. As Germany is part of the Big 5, they automatically qualified for the Grand Final. In the Final, the song received 12 points and finished in 23rd place, all of which came from the jury.<\/p>\n
