Though it’s heavier than the nonhybrid Cayenne, Porsche somehow imbued the hybrid model with the same joyful driving experience. The Turbo models get a twin-turbo V-8 that boosts combined output to 729 ponies. Those models move like few other vehicles on the road. Yet, driven sedately, all the Cayenne E-Hybrid trims deliver a family-friendly ride quality that makes them compelling dual-purpose machines. They can be picking up the kids from soccer practice after school and be nipping apexes on Angeles Crest Highway by sunset.

Expert Tip: The Cayenne E-Hybrid comes in two body styles: a conventionally shaped SUV and a fastback roofline dubbed the “Coupe.” The plug-in hybrid powertrain adds quite a bit to the Cayenne E-Hybrid’s price tag; the standard nonhybrid Cayenne costs less and provides similar thrills—just without the electric driving range.

What’s New for 2027?

The Cayenne Hybrid is expected to blast into 2027 with no significant changes.

What’s Your Car Worth?

Car and Driver calculates your car’s value in three free and easy steps – using the same Black Book® data dealers use to appraise vehicles.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

The base E-Hybrid remains our fave here. True, the S extracts an additional 49 ponies from the turbo V-6 and includes an air spring suspension with ride height adjustability, but you can add the air springs to the base model and still have plenty left over for options—always a good thing when ordering up a Porsche. If going really, really fast is the goal, the Turbo brings massive V-8 hybrid power, 21-inch wheels, premium audio, and a host of additional features. The base E-Hybrid and S E-Hybrid share a turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 and electric motor setup in two levels of tune. The base model is rated at 463 horsepower, and the S at 512. The Turbo switches to a meaty twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 and electric motor with a combined output of 729 horsepower. We instead preferred either the Hybrid or Sport drive modes in normal driving, which deliver smoother power delivery by bringing the gas V-6 engine online sooner or full-time. We also noted the transmission’s discombobulated low-speed shifting in an S E-Hybrid we tested. However, on our 75-mph highway fuel economy route, the Turbo Coupe we tested delivered an impressive 39 miles of electric driving before the battery depleted.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG C/D 75-mph Highway Fuel-Economy Test: 22 mpg (Turbo Coupe) EPA City Rating: 21 EPA Highway Rating: 23

The EPA estimates that all of the Cayenne Hybrid models will deliver 21 mpg city, 23 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined. When we tested a 2024 Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid Coupe on our 75-mph highway fuel economy test, it yielded a 22-mpg result. With its sizable 12.7-inch instrument cluster and toggle-style gear selector, it feels similar to the electric Taycan sedan. While the buyers of base and S trims make do with standard faux-leather heated front seats with eight-way power adjustment, they at least get a standard power-adjustable, heated leather steering wheel. Turbo trims get standard leather-trimmed 18-way power-adjustable sport seats. Less aggressive 14-way power-adjustable comfort seats are optional.

Second Row: Passenger space in the back seat is roomy enough for adults, although the coupe’s sloping roofline does reduce headroom a bit in comparison with the conventional squareback SUV body style. Heated rear seats are available as an option, as is a four-zone automatic climate control system with separate controls for the rear seat passengers.

Cargo Capacity: Cargo space measures a reasonable 16 cubic feet behind the second row, expanding to 55 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. In our testing, we fit eight carry-on suitcases in the squareback Cayenne E-Hybrid’s cargo bay; with the rear seats folded down, we fit 22.

Infotainment and Connectivity Infotainment: 12.3-inch touchscreen (standard), 10.9-inch passenger display (optional) Connectivity: Bluetooth, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Audio System: 10-speaker stereo (standard), 14-speaker Bose stereo (optional), 21-speaker Burmester stereo (optional)

Infotainment and navigation are found on the 12.3-inch center-mounted touchscreen, which thankfully includes a volume button for the audio system. Not to be left out, front-seat passengers get their own optional 10.9-inch touchscreen with video streaming. The infotainment interface allows for the download of integrated apps and also features the Amazon Alexa voice assistant.

There’s a 12.6-inch instrument cluster screen for the driver, as well as a wireless smartphone charging pad. A 10-speaker stereo is standard, but a 14-speaker Bose setup and a 21-speaker Burmester stereo are options. Both upgraded stereo systems feature Dolby Atmos surround sound built in for an even more immersive listening experience.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

The Cayenne E-Hybrid is available with a bevy of driver-assistance technology to help keep occupants safe.
