Volkswagen has reportedly killed off the manual Jetta GLI for 2027.<\/p>\n

Sporty sedan will now be offered exclusively with a seven-speed DSG gearbox.<\/p>\n

It blamed move on declining demand, which made manual unsustainable.<\/p>\n

Earlier this month, Volkswagen revealed an assortment of changes for 2027<\/a>. Key among them was the return of the ID. Buzz and the announcement that a redesigned Atlas Cross Sport would debut later this year. <\/p>\n

The automaker also announced a handful of minor updates to other models, but let a big development fly under the radar. In particular, a new report claims the 2027 Jetta GLI is going automatic-only, meaning Volkswagen will no longer offer any stick shift option in the USA.<\/p>\n

The news was originally revealed in dealer order guides and confirmed to TFLcar<\/a> by a Volkswagen spokesperson. They reportedly said, \u201cAs drivers and car enthusiasts, we appreciate manuals too! That\u2019s why our region worked very hard to keep them around \u2013 we know it matters to a small, but passionate group of drivers who love being fully engaged and rowing their own gears.\u201d <\/p>\n

Despite this, the company said \u201cglobal demand continued to narrow to a point where the market can no longer sustain it. As much as it hurts, that reality meant making some tough choices.\u201d<\/p>\n

The death of the six-speed manual is unfortunate as it means the sedan<\/a> will now be offered exclusively with a seven-speed DSG transmission. It\u2019s connected to a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine developing 228 hp (170 kW \/ 231 PS) and 258 lb-ft (349 Nm) of torque.<\/p>\n

It remains unclear if Volkswagen has any more nasty surprises up their sleeve, but the company previously announced the 2027 Jetta S and Sport receive a new six-speaker audio system as well as a Composition Media infotainment system with satellite radio and voice control. The trims also gain keyless access and a push-button ignition, while all Jettas sport an enhanced rear seatbelt reminder.<\/p>\n
