Saying it was time for a new approach and a new chapter, CBS News Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss has replaced the executive producer of \u201c60 Minutes,\u201d naming outsider Nick Bilton, a longtime technology journalist and documentarian, as the show\u2019s new leader.<\/p>\n
Executive producer Tanya Simon will be leaving about a year after being named to the job following 30 years at the venerable Sunday evening program.<\/p>\n
In a memo to staff Thursday, Weiss and CBS News President Tom Cibrowski said their goal was \u201cbuilding a show that thrives in the 21st century.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThat requires a new approach,\u201d Weiss and Cibrowski wrote, defining it as \u201cexpanding \u201960 Minutes\u2019 beyond a one-hour television broadcast, deepening its role across CBS News, and holding everything we produce to the ambition, fairness, and fearlessness that have defined \u201960 Minutes\u2019 at its best.\u201d<\/p>\n
Also let go, according to a person familiar with the situation who spoke on anonymity: correspondents Sharyn Alfonsi, whose segment on torture in Salvadoran prisons was temporarily pulled by Weiss, running a month later; and Cecilia Vega.<\/p>\n
USPS, DHL strike $10B \u2018last mile\u2019 deal<\/p>\n
The United States Postal Service said Thursday it reached a $10 billion deal to provide \u201clast-mile\u201d package delivery services for DHL eCommerce, an arm of German package services provider DHL.<\/p>\n
The USPS said in December it intended to open its last-mile delivery network to large and small shippers, expanding beyond current arrangements with Amazon and UPS.<\/p>\n
