{"id":28189,"date":"2026-06-01T16:32:56","date_gmt":"2026-06-01T16:32:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/28189\/"},"modified":"2026-06-01T16:32:56","modified_gmt":"2026-06-01T16:32:56","slug":"navantia-thyssenkrupp-team-up-on-global-submarine-shipbuilding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/28189\/","title":{"rendered":"Navantia, thyssenkrupp Team Up on Global Submarine Shipbuilding"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/dronefront.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">&#13;<br \/>\n    <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/WhatsAppVideo2026-05-15at09.23.58.gif\" alt=\"The Drone Front\" width=\"1280\" height=\"539\"\/>&#13;<br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Spain\u2019s state enterprise Navantia and German firm thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) have signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly explore shipbuilding opportunities in support of submarine efforts across Europe, NATO, and other international customers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Central to the agreement is a closer industrial cooperation to deliver initiatives more efficiently, at lower cost, and at a faster pace.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Both companies will begin management-level discussions based on mutual trust and in accordance with unified competition rules and export control regulations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Designs under the partnership will draw from TKMS\u2019 proven submarine systems, with associated production planned at Navantia\u2019s shipyard in Spain.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cToday we are taking a significant step towards \u2026 Europe\u2019s strategic autonomy and sovereignty in defence,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.navantia.es\/en\/news\/press-releases\/tkms-and-navantia-sign-memorandum-of-understanding-on-roadmap-to-cooperation-in-naval-shipbuilding\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">said<\/a> Ricardo Dom\u00ednguez, executive chairman of Navantia.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis collaboration will deliver cutting\u2011edge capabilities to our armed forces while leveraging the full potential of European defence investment. As leading players in the naval and defence domain, Navantia and TKMS are committed to actively contributing to this common European effort.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Strong European Partners\u2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the consortium, the teaming agreement will address growing demand from militaries for advanced naval capabilities to counter evolving threats.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is also expected to provide the \u201cexpertise, infrastructure, and experience\u201d needed to tackle challenges in Europe\u2019s manufacturing ecosystem.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cTKMS has been a global market leader in non-nuclear submarines for decades,\u201d TKMS Supervisory Board Chairperson Volkmar Dinstuhl <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tkmsgroup.com\/news\/article\/tkms-and-navantia-sign-memorandum-of-understanding-on-roadmap-to-cooperation-in-naval-shipbuilding\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">stated<\/a>. \u201cWe share Navantia\u2019s commitment to the highest quality standards and the clear goal of delivering quickly and reliably to our customers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis memorandum of understanding enables us to leverage synergies between our shipyard capacities and to act together as strong European partners.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Latest Projects<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Navantia is currently engaged in the construction of up to six S-80 Isaac Peral-class submarines for the <a href=\"https:\/\/thedefensepost.com\/2025\/11\/19\/spain-s80-submarine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Spanish Navy<\/a>, while TKMS is working on the production of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.navalnews.com\/naval-news\/2023\/03\/german-navy-mulling-drone-heavy-force-structure-looking-towards-2035-and-beyond\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">up to 15 submarines<\/a> for the <a href=\"https:\/\/thedefensepost.com\/2023\/09\/18\/germany-norway-identical-submarines\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">German Navy<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/thedefensepost.com\/2026\/02\/02\/norway-212cd-submarines\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Norwegian Navy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2025, TKMS was named a finalist alongside South Korea\u2019s Hanwha Ocean to deliver up to 12 next-generation diesel-electric submarines to replace Victoria-class submarines of the <a href=\"https:\/\/thedefensepost.com\/2025\/08\/28\/canada-submarine-thyssenkrupp-hanwha\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Royal Canadian Navy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That same year, the German company won a contract to build six advanced conventional submarines for the <a href=\"https:\/\/thedefensepost.com\/2025\/01\/28\/thyssenkrupp-indian-navy-subs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Indian Navy<\/a>, and secured a partnership with Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri to offer the U212 Near Future Submarine for the <a href=\"https:\/\/thedefensepost.com\/2025\/04\/18\/fincantieri-tkms-submarines-philippines\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Philippine Navy<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"&#13;
