A World Divided.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/unionstation.org\/event\/berlin-wall\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">features<\/a>\u00a0over 200 artifacts from\u00a045 years of global history, including the years\u00a0the Berlin Wall separated\u00a0East Germany from\u00a0West Germany\u00a0during\u00a0the Cold War.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn a world still shaped by division, this story feels more relevant than ever,\u201d Union\u00a0Station\u2019s\u00a0website reads.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In 1961\u2013\u00a0less than 20 years after World War II ended\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Germany was divided and\u00a0millions of people had\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.stiftung-berliner-mauer.de\/en\/topics\/flight-division\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">left<\/a>\u00a0communist East Germany for capitalist West Germany.\u00a0East Germany\u2019s government built a\u00a0cement and barbed wire\u00a0wall\u00a0at its border to keep West German \u201cfascists\u201d from entering.\u00a0At first, people\u00a0were allowed to\u00a0travel\u00a0between the two sides\u00a0despite the wall, but it quickly became\u00a0illegal.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf your freedom, family, and future were suddenly divided by a wall\u2026\u00a0what would you have done?\u201d the exhibit\u2019s website reads.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The wall stood until\u00a01989,\u00a0and\u00a0its\u00a0roughly 30\u00a0years\u00a0of existence\u00a0marked\u00a0a time of\u00a0severe separation,\u00a0nuclear war, political propaganda, ideological\u00a0conflict\u00a0and fear.\u00a0Families and loved ones were forced to live separated,\u00a0and over 5,000 East Germans were able to cross the walled border\u00a0while at\u00a0least 171\u00a0died trying,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.history.com\/articles\/berlin-wall\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">according<\/a>\u00a0to History.com.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Berlin Wall. A World Divided.\u00a0presents\u00a0real-life accounts of those who lived through the time of the wall and\u00a0experienced the heartache of being separated\u00a0from\u00a0those they loved.\u00a0The\u00a0display\u00a0also\u00a0features\u00a0several sections of the wall, personal belongings to Hiroshima bombing victims\u00a0and documents from the\u00a0time\u00a0period.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The exhibit, created by the producers of\u00a0Auschwitz. Not long ago. Not far\u00a0away.,\u00a0was\u00a0launched in Madrid\u00a0in 2023 and\u00a0made stops in\u00a0Paris and Barcelona.\u00a0The display will be in Kansas City until Dec.\u00a013.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Tickets\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/unionstation.org\/event\/berlin-wall\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">cost<\/a>\u00a0$26 for\u00a0adults\u00a0and\u00a0$15 for children with special prices available for military members and seniors.\u00a0Tickets\u00a0are sold until two hours before Union Station\u2019s closing time.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Union Station will be open the following hours:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Monday through Friday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Saturday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sunday: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Berlin Wall.
