Agile Robots SE this week said it is acquiring the assets of thyssenkrupp Automation Engineering in Europe and North America. They were previously part of Automotive Technology segment of thyssenkrupp AG.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow is the right time to combine AI, robotics, and industrial expertise. Physical AI offers enormous productivity leaps to industrial producers,\u201d stated Zhaopeng Chen, founder and CEO of Agile Robots. \u201cTogether with thyssenkrupp Automation Engineering, we are perfectly positioned to drive the next industrial revolution \u2014 and to do that from Germany.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Founded in 2018 as a spin-off from the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Munich, Agile Robots said it has deployed more than 20,000 robots and doubled its revenue annually, reaching around \u20ac200 million ($231.9 million U.S.) in 2024. thyssenkrupp Automation Engineering\u2019s 2024 revenue was in the hundreds of millions, it added.<\/p>\n<p>Agile Robots cited the unit\u2019s technological expertise, long-standing customer relationships, and decades of experience in the international automotive industry as reasons for the acquisition.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.roboticssummit.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">&#13;<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-568305\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Leaderboard-Ad-RSE-Reg-Toay-V1.png\" alt=\"SITE AD for the 2026 Robotics Summit save the date.\" width=\"728\" height=\"90\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Agile Robots plans to grow beyond automotive industry<\/p>\n<p>Agile Robots has implemented robots for customers in sectors ranging from consumer electronics to automotive around the world. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.therobotreport.com\/tag\/agile-robots\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">company<\/a> claimed that these projects have not only involved installing robots but have also modernized entire production lines.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur goal is to shorten innovation cycles and continuously optimize our customers\u2019 production processes,\u201d Chen said.<\/p>\n<p>However, the acquisition is taking place in a challenging market environment, acknowledged Agile Robots. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.therobotreport.com\/category\/markets-industries\/automotive\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">automotive <\/a>industry is undergoing profound change, which the company said provides an opportunity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to reposition thyssenkrupp Automation Engineering and tap into new market segments,\u201d asserted Chen.<\/p>\n<p>Agile Robots noted that thyssenkrupp Automation Engineering can help it expand into high-growth industries such as electronics, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.therobotreport.com\/category\/markets-industries\/biotechnology-medical-healthcare\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">medical<\/a> technology, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.therobotreport.com\/category\/markets-industries\/logistics-warehousing-asrs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">logistics<\/a>. Source: Agile Robots<\/p>\n<p>Agile Robots builds out technical portfolio<\/p>\n<p>Agile Robots said its integrated portfolio combines robotics hardware, software, data, and in-house manufacturing expertise. It <a href=\"https:\/\/www.therobotreport.com\/agile-robots-acquires-franka-emika\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">acquired<\/a> force- and power-limited arm maker Franka Emika GmbH in 2023 and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.therobotreport.com\/agile-robots-launches-agile-one-industrial-humanoid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">launched<\/a> the Agile ONE industrial <a href=\"https:\/\/www.therobotreport.com\/category\/robots-platforms\/humanoids\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">humanoid<\/a> last week.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.agile-robots.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">company<\/a> currently employs more than 2,500 people from around 60 countries. Agile Robots also said it has one of the industry\u2019s largest research and development teams, with more than 1,000 artificial intelligence and robotics experts.<\/p>\n<p>With the acquisition of thyssenkrupp Automation Engineering, Agile Robots said its team will grow by approximately 650 experts and 10 new locations in Europe and North America. In addition to providing engineers and supply chain expertise, Agile Robots said the group\u2019s North American operations will help it strengthen its foothold in the U.S. market.<\/p>\n<p>thyssenkrupp Automation Engineering to be Krause Automation<\/p>\n<p>thyssenkrupp Automation Engineering was founded in 1950 under the name Johann A. Krause in Bremen, Germany, and said it quickly became a key machinery manufacturer for the automotive industry in the European market. In 1989, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thyssenkrupp.com\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Thyssen Industrie AG<\/a> acquired 100% of the company\u2019s shares and expanded its presence in North America.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are bringing our many years of experience in plant engineering and project execution for demanding processes, mission-critical projects, and global customer structures into a dynamically growing, future-oriented organization,\u201d said Dr. Rolf-G\u00fcnther Nieberding, CEO of thyssenkrupp Automation Engineering.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith Agile Robots\u2019 innovations, we can leverage our expertise in the application of robotics, software, and system integration to further enhance the value for our joint customers \u2014 while continuing to support the strong growth of the Agile Robots Group,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Agile Robots and thyssenkrupp said they intend to safeguard and further develop existing capabilities and their workforce\u2019s strong engineering expertise. Following the acquisition, the company will operate as Krause Automation within the Agile Robots Group.<\/p>\n<p>The transaction is subject to regulatory approval.
