FRANKFURT, June 4 (Reuters) – Several staff members were injured when the nose gear of a \u200cBoeing 787 jetliner unexpectedly collapsed at a \u200cgate at Frankfurt airport on Thursday, its operator Lufthansa said.<\/p>\n
“Passengers had \u200bnot yet boarded,” a company spokesperson said in an emailed statement, adding that crew members and ground staff were on board the aircraft at the time \u200cof the incident, which \u2060was first reported by Bloomberg News.<\/p>\n
“Several staff members were injured and are currently \u2060receiving medical treatment,” the company added.<\/p>\n
A Boeing spokesperson said the company was aware of the incident and \u200bwas supporting \u200bits customer but offered \u200bno further detail.<\/p>\n
A Reuters \u200cphotographer saw multiple emergency vehicles parked around the two-engine widebody aircraft, which partly lay on its belly.<\/p>\n
The incident occurred at 12:45 p.m. (1045 GMT), and the jet was scheduled to depart for Los Angeles as \u200cflight LH450, Lufthansa said.<\/p>\n
“We are \u200bcurrently investigating the exact circumstances \u200bwith the relevant authorities,” \u200bthe company added.<\/p>\n
The 787, of which \u200cLufthansa operates the 787-9 variant, \u200bis a \u200brelatively new addition for the group, which is planning to gradually phase out less efficient jets \u200band simplify its \u200cfleet.<\/p>\n
