GREENVILLE \u2014 During the star-studded BMW Charity Pro-Am, actor and comedian Bill Murray enjoyed the game and family.<\/p>\n
\u201cI got to come for a few days and play golf with my brother,\u201d the famed Charlestonian said June 5 at a press conference alongside his brother, Joel. \u201cThere\u2019s no price you could put on that.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Murray brothers were among the many celebrities, amateurs and professionals who gathered in the Upstate this week for the 26th annual golf tournament, which awards a $1 million donation to the charity of choice for the winner.<\/p>\n
Donations from charity winnings go towards nine charities, including the South Carolina Junior Golf Foundation<\/a>, Upstate Warrior Solution<\/a> and the Hispanic Alliance<\/a>.<\/p>\n Originally from Illinois, Murray gained fame for captivating audiences through comedy and satire. The Saturday Night Live alum is no stranger to golf, starring as Carl Spackler in \u201cCaddyshack.\u201d<\/p>\n Before becoming an actor, he worked as a greenskeeper \u2014 an experience that inspired his portrayal of Spackler in the 1980 film.<\/p>\n \u201cI was a greenskeeper, so there’s this movie based on reality,\u201d Murray said. \u201cWe were free. Back then, we didn’t take it all so seriously. We were just having fun.\u201d<\/p>\n Murray is also known for his blues-rock band, Bill Murray and the Blood Brothers<\/a>, which will perform during the tournament\u2019s festivities.<\/p>\n
