Energy comparison site Uswitch says households on standard variable tariffs face an average increase of \u00a3221 a year when regulator Ofgem raises the energy price cap by 13% next month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Ben Gallizzi, energy expert at Uswitch, said: &#8220;For the millions of households on standard tariffs, this is your warning that your energy rates are rising on 1 July &#8211; unless you act now.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">&#8220;The price cap is going up, but your bills don&#8217;t have to. There are 23 fixed deals available that are cheaper than the price cap, with savings on offer of up to \u00a3255. These deals might not be around for long, so take a few minutes to check online to see what deals are available to you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\"><a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/news\/midlands-news\/asian-hornet-population-explodes-households-34045436\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">READ MORE Asian Hornet population &#8216;explodes&#8217; with households in England told to shut windows<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The new energy price cap affects British Gas, EDF, EON, Ovo and Octopus &#8211; the biggest UK energy firms.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Tim Jarvis, Ofgem\u2019s interim chief executive, told <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/bbc\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">BBC<\/a> Radio 4\u2019s Today programme the rise in the cap was \u201calmost entirely driven\u201d by the rise in global gas prices resulting from the Middle East conflict.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cIt is unfortunately now looking like a more long-term disruption to markets than we might originally have hoped,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cIt is likely that we are going to see elevated prices this winter.
