<\/p>\nSiemens Mobility has been selected to design, build, integrate and commission two signalling systems for Wales\u2019 very-first tram-train network \u2013 Cardiff Crossrail.<\/p>\n
The company will provide both an on-street running system to manage tram-train operations through the city centre and a line-of-sight system on the Cardiff Bay Mainline.<\/p>\n

Awarded the contract by Transport for Wales, Siemens\u2019 work on the project will build on the company\u2019s track record within the region following its previous delivery of signalling elements of the Core Valley Lines Transformation programme, renewing lineside signalling infrastructure across\u202fSouth East\u202fWales\u202fand allowing\u202ftrain frequency to double\u202ffrom two to four trains per hour.<\/p>\n
Plans for Cardiff Crossrail envision an eventual integration with the existing Core Valley Lines network, extending the reach of the South Wales Metro.<\/p>\n

This project will transform rail travel and transport across South Wales, and\u202fwe’re\u202fproud to be delivering the signalling infrastructure that will make it possible, building on our work on the Core Valley Lines Programme.<\/p>\n
Stage E\u2013G (Phase 1A) of the Cardiff Crossrail project will establish Wales\u2019 first tram network, which will connect Cardiff Central and Cardiff Bay by light rail for the first time.<\/p>\n
The 28-month project forms part of the broader South Wales Metro initiative, which aims to deliver more frequent,\u00a0faster\u00a0and greener rail services across the region.<\/p>\n
