Shoppers need to be on high alert, as 58,405 cases of Park Street Deli Macaroni & Cheese have been recalled<\/a> due to an undeclared allergen. The heat-and-eat deli side was sold exclusively at Aldi stores across the country. Unfortunately, it contained soy lecithin, which was not disclosed on the label. The recall was originally initiated on March 23 but wasn\u2019t posted by the Food and Drug Administration until it was classified on June 10. The reason for this gap in time is unclear.<\/p>\n

This has been deemed a Class II<\/a> recall<\/a> by the FDA, which means it’s \u201ca situation in which use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences.\u201d Though the Park Street Deli Macaroni & Cheese could be dangerous for someone with a soy lecithin sensitivity or soy allergy, it’s safe for others to eat.<\/p>\n

Details about the product label (like best-by dates) are scarce. We know this heat-and-eat dish was sold at Aldi stores nationwide, and while I assume the products have been removed from shelves, Aldi has not shared any information on the Product Recalls section<\/a> of its website.<\/p>\n

What To Do With Recalled Products<\/p>\n

If you believe you have a recalled tub of Park Street Deli’s macaroni and cheese, do not eat it if you’re concerned about an adverse reaction to soy lecithin. John Hopkins Medicin<\/a>e<\/a> reports that someone with a soy allergy having an allergic reaction to soy lecithin is low, but not impossible. More than likely, they will be able to tolerate the allergen \u201cbecause these substances are fat-based, and people with allergies react to the protein part of the food.\u201d<\/p>\n

You should be able to exchange any product for a replacement. Aldi typically offers a refund for recalled products, and the company also has a Twice As Nice Guarantee that allows customers to request a refund and exchange the product for a different one. This is the most recent product recall for Aldi, but it’s not the first of the year.
