Additional investors include the Federal Agency for Disruptive Innovation (SPRIND), Kensho Ventures, and High-Tech Gru\u0308nderfonds (HTGF).<\/p>\n<p>For CEO Nicolai Walter, the funding marks a turning point: \u201cThis financing is a major milestone for Pixel Photonics. It enables us to transform what has so far been a highly specialised quantum technology into robust, scalable industrial products. Our goal is to make the most powerful light detection as reliable and accessible as today\u2019s semiconductor components \u2013 and to bring it into real industrial systems. We are excited to take this step together with strong partners and establish this key technology in the market.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"1863\">Pixel Photonics\u2019 raise places it within a broader group of European quantum and photonics hardware financings.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"1863\">Comparable European activity across 2025-2026 include:<\/p>\n<p>Netherlands: Dutch photonic quantum computing company <a class=\"decorated-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.eu-startups.com\/2025\/07\/dutch-startup-quix-quantum-secures-e15-million-to-deliver-first-generation-universal-photonic-quantum-computer\/\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" data-start=\"232\" data-end=\"395\">QuiX Quantum<\/a>, which secured \u20ac15 million to deliver a first-generation universal photonic quantum computer; Delft-based <a class=\"decorated-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.eu-startups.com\/2025\/06\/dutch-deeptech-startup-orangeqs-raises-e12-million-for-its-quantum-chip-testing\/\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" data-start=\"774\" data-end=\"916\">Orange Quantum Systems<\/a>, which brought in \u20ac12 million for quantum-chip testing<br \/>\nGermany: Photonic processing scale-up <a class=\"decorated-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.eu-startups.com\/2025\/07\/german-photonic-processing-scale-up-q-ant-raises-e62-million-in-largest-round-for-photonic-computing-in-europe\/\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" data-start=\"526\" data-end=\"682\">Q.ANT<\/a>, which raised \u20ac62 million to commercialise photonic processors for AI and HPC<br \/>\nFinland: Semiconductor laser maker <a class=\"decorated-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.eu-startups.com\/2026\/02\/vexlum-raises-e10-million-to-scale-semiconductor-laser-manufacturing-for-quantum-and-space-applications\/?\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" data-start=\"1007\" data-end=\"1180\">Vexlum<\/a>, which raised \u20ac10 million to scale manufacturing for quantum and space applications<br \/>\nIreland: Quantum semiconductor company <a class=\"decorated-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.eu-startups.com\/2026\/01\/irish-quantum-semiconductor-startup-equal1-closes-e51-million-round-to-scale-silicon-based-quantum-computing\/\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" data-start=\"1302\" data-end=\"1457\">Equal1<\/a>, which secured \u20ac51 million to scale silicon-based quantum computing<br \/>\nUK: Leeds-based <a class=\"decorated-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.eu-startups.com\/2026\/01\/leeds-based-optalysys-raises-e26-4-million-to-accelerate-always-encrypted-data-technology-using-light\/\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" data-start=\"1543\" data-end=\"1694\">Optalysys<\/a>, which raised \u20ac26.4 million to commercialise photonic chips.<\/p>\n<p>Together, those rounds amount to over \u20ac176 million, or roughly \u20ac190 million including Pixel Photonics.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1865\" data-end=\"2984\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">In that context, Pixel Photonics sits in the middle of the range: larger than some specialist hardware raises, but below the biggest platform financings now going to photonic and quantum computing scale-ups.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1865\" data-end=\"2984\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">The closest same-country comparison is Q.ANT, which shows that Germany is also producing larger later-stage photonics rounds alongside earlier-stage component and infrastructure companies such as Pixel Photonics.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1865\" data-end=\"2984\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">EU-Startups has also covered Pixel Photonics before, reporting in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eu-startups.com\/2025\/02\/lighting-the-way-pixel-photonics-raises-e1-million-for-multi-mode-single-photon-detection\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">February 2025 on its \u20ac1 million SPRIND grant<\/a> for multi-mode single-photon detection in a separate article on Pixel Photonics. That earlier coverage makes the current funding a clear follow-on step, moving the company from grant-backed technology development towards market entry and industrial scale-up within Europe\u2019s quantum and photonics ecosystem.<\/p>\n<p>CTO Dr Wladick Hartmann adds: \u201cPixel Photonics is transforming superconducting light detectors from complex laboratory instruments into scalable chip solutions. In doing so, we are delivering the \u2018silicon transistor\u2019 of the quantum era \u2013 enabling the transition from niche applications to mass markets and opening entirely new horizons in secure communication and imaging technologies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Founded in 2021 as a spin-off from the University of Mu\u0308nster, Pixel Photonics specialises in high-performance single-photon detection technology.
