{"id":38383,"date":"2026-06-17T16:55:21","date_gmt":"2026-06-17T16:55:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/38383\/"},"modified":"2026-06-17T16:55:21","modified_gmt":"2026-06-17T16:55:21","slug":"germany-poland-sign-defence-cooperation-pact-to-boost-eastern-flank","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/38383\/","title":{"rendered":"Germany, Poland sign defence cooperation pact to boost eastern flank"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius signed an agreement on Wednesday in Warsaw aimed at strengthening military cooperation with Poland.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Defence Minister W\u0142adys\u0142aw Kosiniak-Kamysz also signed the agreement after paying tribute in parliament to the close partnership with Germany.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The ceremony marked the 35th anniversary of the 1991 German-Polish Neighbourhood Treaty. The neighbouring countries were thus taking responsibility for their future within Europe, Pistorius told journalists.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The NATO eastern flank would be strengthened through closer cooperation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;There is no security without Poland, without Germany. There is no security without our values, without our membership in the EU and NATO,&#8221; Kosiniak-Kamysz said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Pistorius said the agreement opened up new possibilities for cooperation on cybersecurity and cutting-edge technologies, the PAP news agency reported.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The German government said the agreement underscores both countries&#8217; commitment to mutual assistance within the framework of the European Union and NATO.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Berlin and Warsaw also aim to work more closely on military capabilities and the defence industry, as well as expanding joint military exercises.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Pistorius announced a deployment exercise dubbed &#8220;Grand Eagle&#8221; involving 1,200 soldiers from Germany through Poland to Lithuania in November.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The Polish Defence Ministry underlined in particular the areas of military logistics and infrastructure, cooperation in the Baltic Sea region and cybersecurity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">However, the agreement does not contain mutual security guarantees of the kind contained in a Polish-French treaty signed last year.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"FILE PHOTO - German Minister of Defence Boris Pistorius speaks during the International Aerospace Exhibition (ILA) at the Berlin ExpoCenter Airport.
