German guard Jack Kayil may remain in Europe for the 2026-27 season rather than join the New York Knicks<\/a> following the 2026 NBA draft, according to Ian Begley of SNY.<\/p>\n Kayil was the 39th pick after averaging 12.2 points, 3.6 assists, three rebounds and one steal while shooting 37.7% from the field in 65 games last season, helping Alba Berlin to the German League title. He was named the 2026 Bundesliga Best Young Player.<\/p>\n The 6-foot-3 Kayil said after the draft<\/a> that his plan was to stay in the United States and play for the Knicks next season. However, with the Knicks facing a financial crunch<\/a>, the organization may elect to stash him in Germany for one more year.<\/p>\n Kayil was highly touted entering the draft this year because of his versatility and ability to play either guard position. He is a crafty scorer who can get into the paint and finish or pull up in the mid-range or beyond the arc, with a smooth step-back shot.<\/p>\n The 20-year-old has also represented Germany at the international level, including two events with the senior team. He most recently competed in the second window of the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup European qualifiers, averaging 11.3 points and five assists in four appearances.<\/p>\n
