The new lineup will include five powertrain options: gasoline engines with 48-volt mild hybrid technology, a plug-in hybrid, the all-electric iX5 and, later, a hydrogen-powered iX5.

“The customer has a choice,” BMW Manufacturing President and CEO Dr. Robert Englehorn said. “We’re delivering from here to the world.”

BMW also announced the completion of a $1.7 billion investment in its South Carolina operations. The spending includes an expansion of Plant Spartanburg, which the company calls its largest plant in the world, as well as the completion of another facility.

The company said it has invested nearly $16 billion in the Spartanburg site since it opened in 1994. The plant employs more than 11,000 workers and exclusively produces BMW’s X Series vehicles, with about half of those vehicles exported to around 120 countries.

BMW officials said the company contributes $43 billion annually to the U.S. economy and has helped attract more than 200 international companies to Spartanburg since the plant opened.

Rollout begins in October

BMW said the 2027 X5 rollout will begin in October with the launch of the X5 40 xDrive. The rear-wheel-drive X5 40, plug-in hybrid X5 50e xDrive and battery-electric iX5 60 xDrive are scheduled to launch in the first quarter of 2027. Additional models, including a V8-powered M Performance version, are expected later that year.

Base prices will start at $69,800 for the X5 40 and $72,100 for the X5 40 xDrive. The X5 50e xDrive plug-in hybrid will start at $77,500, while the all-electric iX5 60 xDrive will start at $79,800. Each model will also carry a $1,450 destination and handling charge.

BMW unveils all-electric iX5 as South Carolina plant expands SPARTANBURG, S.C. — BMW is bringing its first fully…

[20955
39438,39439,39440,6213,38794,21740,38797,4259,24677,36886,3012,24837,38798,27923,38792,39441,23989,37608,24839,38795,38791,23285
post-46688","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-bmw","tag-1-7-billion","tag-2027-rollout","tag-48-volt-mild-hybrid","tag-bmw","tag-demand-menu-subscribe","tag-electric-vehicle","tag-email-weather-search","tag-exports","tag-fields","tag-hydrogen-powered","tag-investment","tag-ix5","tag-page","tag-plug-in-hybrid","tag-privacy-notice-term","tag-robert-englehorn","tag-south-carolina","tag-spartanburg-plant","tag-u-s-economy","tag-use-nextfre","tag-wjcl","tag-x5
["GET
