Is it true that Aldi UK does not sell Halal meat, as viral posts claim on social media? The chain did say so for many years on its accounts on social media. However, in Feb. 2026, Aldi UK implied that it was selling halal items at some stores as part of a trial. Lead Stories asked the company’s U.K. division to clarify where things stand, as of July 1, 2026, but did not receive a response.<\/p>\n

The statement in question appeared in a post<\/a> (archived here<\/a>) on X where it was published by @NotFarLeftAtAll on June 29, 2026. It opened:<\/p>\n

\ud83c\uddec\ud83c\udde7 Aldi Supermarkets don’t sell Halal meat. We don’t sell any certified Halal meat and our policy is that all animals used in the production of Aldi’s own label meat and poultry must be pre-stunned before slaughter. \ud83c\uddec\ud83c\udde7 Well done Aldi \ud83d\udc4d\ud83c\udffb I like Aldi \ud83d\udc4d\ud83c\udffb<\/p>\n

The attached image showed the quote implied to have come from Aldi:<\/p>\n

We’re afraid we don’t sell Halal meat at the moment. That’s because we ask all our farmers – whether they supply fresh meat or frozen – to stun their animals before slaughter.<\/p>\n

A Google search for the keyword “halal” across the Aldi UK website showed one match<\/a> (archived here<\/a>), indicating that the chain once said something about such items on its website, but when a Lead Stories reporter clicked on the link, that page<\/a> (archived here<\/a>), as it appeared on July 1, 2026, did not show the information that appeared in the preview mode, suggesting that the content was either removed or hidden:<\/p>\n

Lead Stories searched, but did not find an archived version of the above page.<\/p>\n

A search for halal products on the Aldi UK website showed no results:<\/p>\n

At the same time, when Lead Stories searched<\/a> for the quote attributed to Aldi UK in the viral post reviewed in this fact check (archived here<\/a>), using verbatim mode<\/a> (archived here<\/a>) on Google, it did not show any pages or accounts associated with Aldi using the same words.<\/p>\n

Yet, a similar wording was used by the Aldi Ireland account on Facebook when it replied<\/a> (archived here<\/a>) to a customer on June 1, 2025:<\/p>\n

When Lead Stories searched the Aldi UK account on X, it produced mixed results<\/a> (archived here<\/a>).<\/p>\n

For example, in May 2020, the chain wrote<\/a> (archived here<\/a>):<\/p>\n

We do not sell any certified Halal meat and it is our policy that all animals used in the production of meat and poultry for Aldi own label products must be pre-stunned prior to slaughter. <\/p>\n

However, on Feb. 2, 2026, it said<\/a> (archived here<\/a>): <\/p>\n

We don’t sell Halal goods everywhere, just a trial in a few select stores. \u2764\ufe0f Hope this helps.<\/p>\n

Further comments on the matter from Aldi UK from spring 2026 implied that some halal items were still available at some locations: <\/p>\n

One blog<\/a> (archived here<\/a>) suggested the supply of halal meat is seasonal and that those items can only be found at certain locations during religiously significant periods such as Ramadan<\/a> (archived here<\/a>). Lead Stories was not able to independently verify that.<\/p>\n

Lead Stories repeatedly tried to contact Aldi UK to get a definitive answer, but did not receive a response. If the chain replies, this article will be updated as appropriate.<\/p>\n

As previously reported<\/a> (archived here<\/a>) by the Halal Times<\/a> (archived here<\/a>), the most recent wave of uproar concerning the meat sold by Aldi UK stores began in October 2025, when claims suggesting that most types of meat sold there were halal because animals, as social media speculated, allegedly were not stunned before the slaughter. At the time, Aldi UK told reporters, as documented<\/a> (archived here<\/a>) by Farmers Guide, that 100% of its meat came from pre-stunned animals.<\/p>\n

In the U.K., kosher and halal meat are religious exemptions from mandatory pre-slaughter stunning<\/a> (archived here<\/a>). Stunning on its own would not make the meat halal, either, especially given the fact that there is no solid consensus on it among Muslim scholars. It just had to be done in a way that doesn’t kill the animal and would allow it to recover if there is no slaughter, explained a 2017 article<\/a> (archived here<\/a>) published by the Guardian. In part, its author wrote: “As a Muslim who eats only halal meat… The Qur’an only requires that an animal be alive at the time its throat is cut; it makes no reference to stunning. Many prominent scholars see no issue with stunning, provided that the process of stunning does not kill the animal. The point of the halal method is to provide animals with higher standards of welfare and to minimise their distress. Halal does not just refer to the way the animal dies; it demands that it was reared with care and given a good quality of life. It is impossible to reconcile caring for an animal and protecting its rights with cutting its throat while it is conscious.”<\/p>\n

It should be noted that Aldi’s policies appear to vary across regions. For example, its U.S.-based division stated<\/a> (archived here<\/a>) on its website, as of this writing:<\/p>\n

While there may not be a halal-specific section in our stores, we do stock several items that meet halal requirements. We encourage our customers looking for halal foods to review the ingredients and product information on any of the items they are choosing to ensure the product meets their requirements.<\/p>\n

And a search across Aldi’s American stores showed some halal meats on the list of the products offered by the chain:<\/p>\n
