by Brad Anderson<\/a><\/p>\n 8 hours ago<\/p>\n Xiaomi is testing a heavily camouflaged coupe on Chinese roads.<\/p>\n The prototype borrows its flowing shape from the SU7 sedan.<\/p>\n It could use Xiaomi\u2019s latest-generation quad-motor powertrain.<\/p>\n Not satisfied with merely selling two of China\u2019s most popular premium EVs, the SU7 and YU7, Xiaomi looks to be gearing up for a high-performance two-door coupe that could put European sports car and supercar makers on notice. <\/p>\n This wild Xiaomi<\/a> prototype was recently spotted cruising down a highway in China, bathed in camouflage, and complete with some familiar design details to Xiaomi\u2019s existing models. Most notable are the wraparound LED taillights and light bar, which appear a little slimmer here than on the SU7.<\/p>\n Read: Xiaomi Loses $5,600 On Every Car It Sells, Up From $900 A Year Ago<\/a><\/p>\n The exterior highlight of the prototype<\/a> is that enormous rear wing, which looks at least as large as the one on the current Porsche 911 GT3 RS, if not slightly bigger. The rear also carries a large motorsport-inspired diffuser to pile on downforce and help pin the car to the pavement. Nobody bolts on hardware like this unless the car underneath is meant to move.<\/p>\n The overall shape of the car\u2019s body shares similarities to the SU7 sedan, meaning there are plenty of smooth and flowing lines, which are a welcome reprieve from some of the recent designs we\u2019ve seen from legacy firms that prioritize aggressive and jagged edges. Like the SU7, these Weibo<\/a> shots show the rear quarter panels are especially curvaceous, although they are now much wider.<\/p>\n What About Power?<\/p>\n Weibo<\/p>\n Also visible are distinctive door skins and enlarged vents sitting behind the front wheels. The skirts, wheels, and brakes look close to what the SU7 already provides, as do the wing mirrors, so at least some of the parts bin carries over.<\/p>\n Limited technical details about the car are known at this stage, but there\u2019s speculation this car could be a new flagship, performance EV<\/a> from the firm. Roughly 18 months ago, the Chinese technology company unveiled a quad-motor EV platform with active suspension and up to 2,054 hp, yet this powertrain has not been used in any current Xiaomi production car.
