Eagle-eyed Aldi shoppers<\/a> have noticed a change to a popular product<\/a> in the fridge section, and some are not happy about it.<\/p>\n

One customer was stunned when they went to buy their regular $1.85 Farmdale Full Cream Milk<\/a> recently, which is usually packaged in a 1L carton.<\/p>\n

But they quickly discovered that it now came in a plastic bottle.<\/p>\n

They called it a “huge step backward” and feared their milk would start tasting like “gross” plastic.<\/p>\n

A YouGov survey<\/a> showed that 78 per cent of Aussies are concerned about plastic use across the country, and many are being mindful of how much they’re buying.<\/p>\n

An Aldi spokesperson confirmed to Yahoo Lifestyle<\/a> that the change has been implemented only in supermarkets across New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, and Western Australia.<\/p>\n

The carton version still remains in South Australia.<\/p>\n

But the supermarket didn’t explain why the carton was changed to a recyclable twist-cap HDPE bottle.<\/p>\n

The new version of Aldi’s Farmdale Milk 1L (Light and Full Cream) can be found in a recyclable twist-cap HDPE bottle in NSW, VIC, QLD and WA. But the carton version remains in South Australia.<\/p>\n

The irritated Aldi shopper who posted about the change declared they would not be buying the new-look plastic containers.<\/p>\n

“Honestly, we know it costs you less, but I’d pay another 50c PER CARTON if it meant no plastic. I honestly can’t drink milk out of plastic. I’m gutted.”<\/p>\n

But it’s worth noting that cartons still have thin layers of plastic inside to prevent the liquid from spoiling the cardboard packaging.<\/p>\n

Aussies replied to the upset milk shopper and said the new plastic bottle isn’t all bad news.<\/p>\n

“Most places can’t recycle [cartons] properly because layers are made of different material that has to be processed separately. At least plastic milk bottles are just one type of plastic,” one pointed out.<\/p>\n

“Single-material plastic bottles are much, much easier to recycle than multi-layered carton with plastic liner inside them,” another wrote.<\/p>\n

Others wished glass bottles were used more often than plastic or cardboard ones.<\/p>\n

“Bring back glass bottles. Even better, the milkman who drops them at your house every day,” one said.<\/p>\n

“It would be great if we went back to reusable glass milk bottles,” wrote another.<\/p>\n
