It creates 1,000 direct jobs and doubles Infineon\u2019s manufacturing capacity in Dresden.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The factory will produce chips that improve how electricity is converted and managed. Those devices will support AI data centers. They will also help power electricity grids and software-defined vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>Capacity doubles in Dresden<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new fab significantly expands Infineon\u2019s production footprint at its Dresden campus, one of the company\u2019s most important manufacturing sites. The additional capacity arrives as demand rises for power semiconductors across sectors.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chief Executive Officer Jochen Hanebeck said the investment comes at the right time as industries require more power chips for future technologies. \u201cOur Smart Power Fab is creating urgently needed capacities for the key technologies of the future,\u201d Hanebeck <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/infineon-opens-the-worlds-largest-fab-for-power-semiconductors-and-analogmixed-signal-technologies-in-dresden-302816962.html\" id=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/infineon-opens-the-worlds-largest-fab-for-power-semiconductors-and-analogmixed-signal-technologies-in-dresden-302816962.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">said<\/a>. He said the facility will help strengthen supply chains serving critical industries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">German Chancellor Friedrich Merz called the project a strong signal for Europe\u2019s semiconductor sector. He said competitive chip manufacturing remains possible in Germany. He also described power semiconductors as essential for AI infrastructure and the energy transition.<\/p>\n<p>AI speeds manufacturing<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Infineon equipped the factory with digital manufacturing tools that reduce production delays and allow faster capacity expansion when demand increases. Engineers created a digital twin before construction to optimize the building layout and equipment placement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Artificial intelligence supports process qualification and production planning. The company says those technologies can double production ramp-up speed compared with previous manufacturing lines.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Dresden site also links with Infineon\u2019s manufacturing facility in Villach, Austria, through its \u201cOne Virtual Fab\u201d network. Engineers can qualify new products and manufacturing processes across both facilities in less time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A faster qualification process could shorten the time between product development and large-scale manufacturing. That flexibility is becoming increasingly important as electricity demand grows. Chipmakers also face pressure to bring new designs into production more quickly as AI infrastructure expands.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/interestingengineering.com\/innovation\/i-pulse-chips-award-geothermal-semiconductors\" id=\"https:\/\/interestingengineering.com\/innovation\/i-pulse-chips-award-geothermal-semiconductors\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow noopener\">chips<\/a> produced in Dresden manage and control electrical power more efficiently. Some will improve power supplies inside AI data centers. Others will support wind turbines, solar installations, and industrial equipment. The factory will also manufacture chips for software-defined vehicles. Intelligent power switches can monitor electrical flow while controlling loads more efficiently.<\/p>\n<p>Sustainability remains central<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Infineon designed the new fab to reduce its environmental footprint alongside the manufacturing expansion. The facility operates without natural gas. Closed-loop water systems recycle about 90% of process water. The company says the design also recovers up to 45% of the energy used during manufacturing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The investment further strengthens Dresden\u2019s position within Silicon Saxony, Europe\u2019s largest semiconductor cluster. More than 80,000 people already work across the regional ecosystem. Infineon expects the new fab to generate additional employment beyond its 1,000 direct hires through suppliers and supporting industries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Power semiconductors have become increasingly important as AI infrastructure expands and electricity demand grows.
