The Kabul Tribune (KT) \u2014 Associated Press reported that Ukraine
\nand Germany have agreed on a major defense cooperation deal, including plans
\nfor joint production of advanced drones and other military systems, as Kyiv
\nseeks to strengthen its fight against Russia.<\/p>\n
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Tuesday that
\nboth countries have initiated concrete steps toward producing various types of
\ndrones, missiles, software, and modern defense systems. He made the remarks
\nduring a joint news conference with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Berlin.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have proposed to Germany a bilateral drone deal… Our
\nteams are starting concrete work,\u201d Zelenskyy said.<\/p>\n
Merz described Berlin\u2019s continued support for Kyiv as \u201ca
\nvery clear signal\u201d to Russia, adding, \u201cWe will not waver in our efforts to
\ndefend Ukraine.\u201d<\/p>\n
The agreement includes a defense package worth \u20ac4 billion
\n($4.7 billion), which Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov said would
\nsignificantly enhance Ukraine\u2019s air defense capabilities, including the
\npurchase of \u201cseveral hundred\u201d U.S.-made Patriot missiles.<\/p>\n
Zelenskyy noted that Ukraine has the capacity to double its
\nmilitary production but lacks sufficient funding. He emphasized the urgent need
\nfor a \u20ac90 billion ($106 billion) European Union loan, previously delayed due to
\nopposition from Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orb\u00e1n.<\/p>\n
The deal comes as U.S.-led diplomatic efforts to end the war
\nhave slowed. However, Tammy Bruce told the United Nations Security Council that
\nWashington remains committed to pursuing a negotiated and lasting resolution.<\/p>\n
Russia currently controls about 20% of Ukrainian territory,
\nincluding the Crimean Peninsula.<\/p>\n
Despite ongoing challenges, Western officials say Ukraine
\nhas recently achieved battlefield gains, disrupting Russian offensives while
\ncontinuing long-range drone and missile strikes deep into Russian territory.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Russian attacks continue. Authorities said
\nmissile and drone strikes in eastern and southern Ukraine killed at least five
\ncivilians and injured dozens more.<\/p>\n
