The company said that this will be “the largest surface vessels contract in TKMS’s history”.

The approval, announced on 8 July, also includes an option to procure additional MEKO A-200 DEU-class vessels in the future, providing Germany with the flexibility to further expand its surface fleet as it continues to strengthen its maritime capabilities in response to the evolving security environment.

According to TKMS, the first frigate is scheduled for delivery to the German Navy as early as 2029. The new vessels are expected to significantly enhance the navy’s operational capabilities, with a particular focus on anti-submarine warfare.

“We are aware of our responsibility to build these ships very quickly due to the security situation, as stipulated in the contracts. We will now address this together with our industry partners from across Germany.
