BERLIN, March 30 (Reuters) – German inflation accelerated in March as a result of surging energy prices against the backdrop of the Iran war.<\/p>\n
Year-on-year inflation rate<\/p>\n
Inflation, which is EU-harmonised, reached 2.8% year-on-year, preliminary data from the federal statistics office showed on Monday.<\/p>\n
Analyst forecasts and previous figures<\/p>\n
The figure was in line with an analyst forecast that saw inflation to jump to 2.8% from the 2.0% reported in February.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Energy prices and core inflation<\/p>\n
Energy prices were up 7.2% on the same month of the previous year, posting the first increase since December 2023.<\/p>\n
Core inflation, which excludes volatile food and energy prices, was unchanged from the previous month at 2.5%.<\/p>\n
