Syria is hoping for more German investment and support as it moves toward reconstruction following Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani’s meeting with a German delegation on Thursday.<\/p>\n
The German delegation was led by G\u00e9za Andreas von Geyr, Germany\u2019s Minister of State at the Federal Foreign Office. The meeting comes after Syria hosted the president of France, and Syria\u2019s president met US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of NATO<\/a>.<\/p>\n As such, the German meetings aim to increase support for Syria\u2019s new government in Europe<\/a>, coming on the heels of Syria and Iraq seeking to develop pipelines and energy deals.<\/p>\n \u201cThe two ministers also launched the inaugural session of the Syrian-German Joint Committee, establishing a new framework for cooperation in economic recovery, reconstruction, investment, energy, transport, civil aviation, transitional justice, missing persons and refugee issues,” Syria\u2019s state media SANA reported.<\/p>\n “The two sides also signed a bilateral air transport agreement. The document was signed by Sameh Arabi, Deputy Head of Syria\u2019s General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport, and von Geyr,” SANA added.<\/p>\n This will establish the regulatory framework for air services.<\/p>\n \u201cThe accord paves the way for the operational phase, including coordination between the two countries\u2019 civil aviation authorities, designation of national carriers, allocation of traffic rights and flight frequencies, issuance of operating licenses, and completion of the technical and security requirements needed to launch direct flights between Syria and Germany.\u201d<\/p>\n
