CSD commemorates the first known uprising of members of the LGBTQIA+ community against police brutality in 1969 in Greenwich Village, New York at the Stonewall Inn bar on Christopher Street. Every year, around 1 million people take to the streets in solidarity with the cause and take part in the various demonstrations in Berlin.<\/p>\n

For the first time, the celebrations will be taking place across the entire weekend. This year, on Friday July 24, a rally with artistic performances and political speeches will be held at the Brandenburg Gate from 18:00-23:00. The large parade will then make its way through the capital on Saturday, the 25th. The city will be thronged and thriving with parties and music before, during and after the parade. The demonstration is modelled after the New York event and aims to highlight the significance of drag as a cultural and political form of expression.
