{"id":59852,"date":"2026-07-23T13:11:17","date_gmt":"2026-07-23T13:11:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/59852\/"},"modified":"2026-07-23T13:11:17","modified_gmt":"2026-07-23T13:11:17","slug":"georgias-new-envoy-takes-up-post-in-germany-as-tbilisi-seeks-reset","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/59852\/","title":{"rendered":"Georgia&#8217;s new envoy takes up post in Germany as Tbilisi seeks &#8216;reset&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> Georgia&#8217;s newly appointed ambassador to Germany, Aleksandre Kartozia, has formally taken up his post after presenting his credentials to German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, amid efforts by Tbilisi to improve strained bilateral relations. <\/p>\n<p>Georgia&#8217;s Foreign Ministry said Kartozia officially assumed his duties following the credentials ceremony in Berlin, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/new\" rel=\"nofollow\">News.Az<\/a> report, citing <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.newsgeorgia.ge\/novyj-posol-gruzii-v-germanii-vruchil-veritelnye-gramoty-posle-pochti-godichnoj-zaderzhki\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">News Georgia<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Although Kartozia was appointed ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary in September 2025, the presentation of his credentials took place almost a year later against the backdrop of a prolonged downturn in relations between Tbilisi and Berlin.<\/p>\n<p>Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze described the start of the new ambassador&#8217;s mission as an opportunity to &#8220;reset&#8221; bilateral ties.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are particularly interested in resetting relations with Germany. We hope that the presentation of credentials by our ambassador and the appointment of a new German ambassador to Tbilisi will help return our relations to a positive trajectory,&#8221; Kobakhidze said.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that Germany had been one of Georgia&#8217;s most important partners since the 1990s and had made a significant contribution to the country&#8217;s development.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, Kobakhidze blamed former German Ambassador to Georgia Peter Fischer for the deterioration in relations between the two countries.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The former ambassador made a very negative contribution to Georgian-German relations,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Georgian Foreign Minister <a href=\"https:\/\/news.az\/news\/georgia-seeks-to-reset-ties-with-germany-foreign-minister-says\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Maka Botchorishvili<\/a> echoed the prime minister&#8217;s assessment, expressing hope that relations between the two countries would soon &#8220;return to normal&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>News that Kartozia would finally take up his post emerged shortly after the completion of Peter Fischer&#8217;s diplomatic mission.
