Traton Group\u2019s top executives promised an overhaul of the cabs of International Motors\u2019 on-highway tractor portfolio July 23, linking the revamp to a push to win a greater North American heavy-duty truck market share.<\/p>\n
Lisle, Ill.-based International\u2019s Class 8 on-highway strategy is centered on the LT Series and RH Series, each of which is now available with the S13 engine and powertrain.\n \t \t\t<\/p>\n
But during Traton\u2019s second-quarter 2026 earnings call, Chief Financial Officer Michael Jackstein said a new cab was coming as the second part of the basis for the market share push.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are looking into, let\u2019s call it a cab update, since the cab that we [have] right now, even though we developed a little bit in there, is quite old,\u201d Jackstein told analysts.\n \t\t<\/p>\n
A spokesperson for International could not provide more details immediately, but testing of a camouflaged new cab may have been spotted<\/a> in the spring.<\/p>\n International sold 22,898 Class 8 trucks in 2025, a 13.8% year-over-year decrease and equating to an 11% share of the market. In 2024, the company won an 11.1% share of Class 8 retail sales, according to Omdia Automotive data.<\/p>\n As Jackstein and Traton Group CEO Christian Levin noted during the call, engines for International\u2019s heavy-duty trucks have been updated.<\/p>\n International laid out plans<\/a> for an S13 integrated powertrain complying with Environmental Protection Agency emissions requirements for 2027 model-year trucks in January.<\/p>\n Serial production of the S13 powertrain at the Huntsville, Ala., plant began in October 2023<\/a>. The Scania brand began production of the engine in 2022, while MAN followed in 2024.<\/p>\n But on the cab side, the flagship longhaul, on-highway LT Series tractor last saw an overhaul in August 2022 that focused on aerodynamic improvements.<\/p>\n The LT Series \u2014 introduced in September 2016<\/a> to replace the ProStar model \u2014 also saw an updated aero and software package introduced in October 2019.<\/p>\n LT Series tractors were originally offered with the Cummins X15 and Navistar N13 engines and debuted the International A26 engine<\/a> in February 2017 to replace the N13.<\/p>\n The RH Series, meanwhile, saw an updated aero and software package introduced in October 2019. The regional-haul truck debuted in April 2017. International also launched a battery-electric version<\/a>, the eRH Series, in April 2025, but the eRH Series was subsequently withdrawn less than six months later.<\/p>\n
