MONTPELIER \u2014 Bear Lake School District 33 has received a $12,000 Bayer Fund grant to support its Family and Consumer Sciences program.<\/p>\n
The funding will be used to purchase freeze dryers and other supplies, giving students hands-on learning opportunities in food preservation, science and production as well as nutrition, according to a Bear Lake School District news release.<\/p>\n
Through the district’s Family and Consumer Sciences program, students gain experience using modern equipment and developing skills in food preparation and preservation \u2014 skills district officials say will serve them both at home and in the workplace.<\/p>\n
“This grant will provide valuable resources that enhance our students’ educational experience and strengthen our Family and Consumer Sciences program,” said Bear Lake teacher Kim Lewis in the news release. “We are grateful to Bayer Fund for investing in our students and helping us provide real-world learning opportunities that build lifelong skills.”<\/p>\n
The grant will expand learning opportunities for middle school students and provide access to equipment that would otherwise be unavailable. Students will learn food preservation techniques connected to agriculture, food production and self-sufficiency.<\/p>\n

The Bayer Fund awarded more than $3.4 million in grants to 100 organizations last year, including $2.6 million supporting food, nutrition, health and wellness programs in communities where Bayer employees live and work.
