Police have captured and shot dead the man suspected of killing a woman and injuring 29 others at a Pride event in Berlin in what authorities believe was an Islamist terror attack.<\/p>\n

The attacker, named as Abdul Ballout, a 21-year-old German citizen with Lebanese roots, was found at an allotment site in the Spandau area of the city on Sunday evening almost 24 hours after the car and machete rampage.<\/p>\n

Berlin police said he ran at emergency services personnel with a \u201cstabbing weapon\u201d, before armed officers fatally shot him.<\/p>\n

Berlin police said the suspect \u2060tried to \u200battack \u2060them with \u200ca bladed weapon at an allotment \u200cgarden complex in \u200cthe suburb of Spandau before he was fatally shot. <\/p>\n

“According to \u2060initial findings, he ran towards officers while armed with a bladed weapon; police subsequently \u200copened fire. Despite \u200bimmediate resuscitation \u200cefforts by \u2060the Berlin \u2060fire department, he died \u200cat \u200bthe \u200cscene,” Berlin Police wrote in a post on X.<\/p>\n

Berlin police have confirmed the suspect was shot dead in an allotment garden facility in Spandau at about 6pm. <\/p>\n

Police said in a post on X: \u201cAccording to current findings, he is said to have rushed toward our emergency forces with a stabbing weapon, after which police firearms were used by our SEK Berlin. <\/p>\n

\u201cDespite immediate resuscitation measures initiated by the Berlin Fire Department, he died at the scene.\u201d<\/p>\n

The suspect in the attack on a Pride event in Berlin yesterday has been reportedly shot and killed by police, according to German media.<\/p>\n

21-year-old Abdul Ballout, who was named the suspect, was shot \u2060at \u2060an allotment garden complex, regional broadcaster Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB) reported.<\/p>\n

Berlin police has shared its thoughts with the victims and their families following what was a \u201chorrific act of violence\u201d at a \u201cpeaceful\u201d event. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe wish the injured a swift and full recovery from the bottom of our hearts. Our sincere gratitude goes to the first responders as well as the police and emergency services personnel on duty,\u201d police said in a post on X.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur forces are conducting an intensive manhunt for the suspect and are doing everything they can to quickly and thoroughly investigate this horrific act.\u201d<\/p>\n
