JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – A German cookie and snack manufacturer is bringing its first U.S. operation to Madison County in a more than $70 million investment that will create 30 new jobs.<\/p>\n
Griesson – de Beukelaer announced Monday that it will invest more than $70.37 million to establish manufacturing operations in Madison County. The project includes construction of a new 130,000- to 150,000-square-foot production facility in Madison, where the company will manufacture cookies and other snack products.<\/p>\n
As part of the expansion, the company will also acquire an existing facility in Gluckstadt. A portion of the investment will be used to renovate that building and support innovation efforts.<\/p>\n
The project marks the Germany-based company\u2019s first investment in Mississippi.<\/p>\n
Gov. Tate Reeves called the announcement another sign of the state\u2019s growing appeal to international manufacturers.<\/p>\n
\u201cGriesson – de Beukelaer\u2019s decision to invest in Mississippi is another tremendous vote of confidence in our people,\u201d Reeves said. \u201cThe historic momentum continues across our state, and manufacturers around the world are taking notice.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Mississippi Development Authority (MDA) is assisting the project through the Mississippi Flexible Tax Incentive program. Madison County and the Madison County Economic Development Authority (MCEDA) also are providing support.<\/p>\n
MDA Executive Director Bill Cork said the project highlights the state\u2019s ability to compete for foreign investment.<\/p>\n
\u201cInternational companies have more choices than ever when deciding where to invest, and this latest win shows Mississippi continues to stand out,\u201d Cork said. \u201cWe\u2019re pleased to add Griesson – de Beukelaer to the growing list of international companies that call Mississippi home.\u201d<\/p>\n
Andreas Land, company owner and board member, said the Gluckstadt acquisition is central to the company\u2019s U.S. expansion strategy.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe acquisition and further development of the facility in Gluckstadt are a key component of our expansion in the U.S. and part of our strategic growth plan,\u201d Land said. \u201cTogether, we will systematically develop the site and invest in the highest quality, modern production, and new product ideas \u2013 with a clear commitment to long-term growth.\u201d<\/p>\n
MCEDA Executive Director Joseph P. Deason said the company\u2019s decision to establish its first U.S. operation in the county reflects years of planning.<\/p>\n
