{"id":6260,"date":"2026-04-21T12:38:23","date_gmt":"2026-04-21T12:38:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/6260\/"},"modified":"2026-04-21T12:38:23","modified_gmt":"2026-04-21T12:38:23","slug":"us-approves-11-9b-aegis-combat-system-sale-for-german-frigates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/6260\/","title":{"rendered":"US Approves $11.9B Aegis Combat System Sale for German Frigates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t<a href=\"http:\/\/militaryai.ai\/\" aria-label=\"WhatsApp Video 2026-01-06 at 04.30.24\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/WhatsApp-Video-2026-01-06-at-04.30.24.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"no-lazyload\" width=\"1470\" height=\"620\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The US Department of State has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.state.gov\/releases\/bureau-of-political-military-affairs\/2026\/04\/germany-integrated-combat-system-supporting-equipment-and-support\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">approved<\/a> an estimated $11.9-billion sale of Aegis-based integrated combat systems for Germany\u2019s future fleet of Type 127 frigates.<\/p>\n<p>The potential Foreign Military Sale includes eight shipsets of Aegis-based integrated combat system MK 6 MOD X computing infrastructure, eight shipsets of AN\/SPY-6(V)1 active electronically scanned array S-band radars, and eight shipsets of MK 41 baseline VIII vertical launch systems.<\/p>\n<p>The approval marks an important step in Germany\u2019s planned procurement of eight <a href=\"https:\/\/thedefensepost.com\/2024\/09\/09\/nvl-thyssenkrupp-german-frigate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Type 127 air defense frigates<\/a> to defend against ballistic and potentially hypersonic missiles.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the program, the State Department <a href=\"https:\/\/thedefensepost.com\/2025\/11\/19\/us-missiles-german\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">approved a request in November<\/a> to procure Standard Missile-6 (SM-6) Block I and Standard Missile-2 (SM-2) Block IIIC interceptors.<\/p>\n<p>Germany has requested up to 173 SM-6 Block I and 577 SM-2 Block IIIC missiles for an estimated $3.5 billion.<\/p>\n<p>These ship-launched interceptors are capable of anti-air and anti-surface warfare, as well as ballistic missile defense and sea-based terminal intercepts.<\/p>\n<p>Aegis Combat System<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/thedefensepost.com\/2026\/01\/27\/aegis-weapon-system-guide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Aegis Combat System<\/a>, developed by Lockheed Martin and used by the US Navy since the 1980s, integrates radar, tracking, weapons control, and networking into a single architecture for integrated air and missile defense.<\/p>\n<p>At its core is the AN\/SPY phased-array radar, which can simultaneously detect, track, and guide missiles against more than 100 targets.
