{"id":62869,"date":"2026-07-28T15:32:18","date_gmt":"2026-07-28T15:32:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/62869\/"},"modified":"2026-07-28T15:32:18","modified_gmt":"2026-07-28T15:32:18","slug":"merz-defends-german-trial-of-palestinian-activists","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/62869\/","title":{"rendered":"Merz defends German trial of Palestinian activists"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has defended a trial taking place in southern Germany of several pro-Palestinian activists.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;We have proceedings in Germany that are conducted in accordance with the rule of law,&#8221; Merz said at a press conference in Dublin, following a meeting with Irish Prime Minister Miche\u00e1l Martin.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;Consular assistance is guaranteed; The accused are also represented by defence lawyers; And I have absolutely no doubt that, regardless of nationality, proceedings in Germany are conducted in line with internationally recognized standards,&#8221; Merz said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">He added that the German judiciary is independent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">For several months five pro-Palestinian activists of Irish, British, Spanish and German nationality have been standing trial at the Stuttgart Regional Court.
