ASO is expected to decide on the host of the 2029 Grand D\u00e9part in early 2027.<\/p>\n<p>Tour director Christian Prudhomme praised the quality of the German proposal while stressing that the final decision has yet to be made.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe bid that has been presented to us today is undoubtedly extremely attractive. We will examine it with the greatest attention, even though we had already received some initial information. It is an extremely convincing project,\u201d Prudhomme <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sport1.de\/news\/radsport\/tour-de-france\/2026\/07\/grand-depart-2029-deutsche-bewerbung-offiziell-uebergeben\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Prudhomme also highlighted the historical significance of the proposed start. \u201cThe Tour de France has always belonged where history is made &#8211; real, great history. If the Tour were to start in Berlin in 2029, it would become part of that history.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Berlin Wall anniversary makes the bid unique<\/p>\n<p>According to Prudhomme, many cities and regions apply to host the Grand D\u00e9part, but Germany&#8217;s proposal stands out because of its timing. \u201cThe difference with the German bid is that it is closely linked to the historic anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. That symbolic connection cannot simply be postponed to another date.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cI sincerely hope that we can work together on this project and make a dream come true that we all share.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Elisabeth Kaiser, Germany&#8217;s Minister of State and Federal Government Commissioner for Eastern Germany, described the anniversary as an important milestone for the entire country, saying that the achievements of the people of eastern Germany since 1989 deserve recognition and international attention.<\/p>\n<p>The organisers estimate that a Berlin Grand D\u00e9part could attract around 12 million spectators and generate approximately \u20ac150 million in economic impact.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"720\" height=\"405\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/mark-cavendish-christian-prudhomme-696a37e1e5f44.jpeg@webp.webp\" class=\"w-auto h-auto\" alt=\"Mark Cavendish and Christian Prudhomme at the unveiling of the 2027 Tour de France Grand Depart in Edinburgh\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Mark Cavendish and Christian Prudhomme at the unveiling of the 2027 Tour de France Grand Depart in Edinburgh<\/p>\n<p>Germany hoping for a fifth Grand D\u00e9partThe 2027 Tour de France <a href=\"https:\/\/cyclinguptodate.com\/cycling\/official-2027-tour-de-france-starts-in-edinburgh-first-3-stages-of-british-grand-depart-revealed\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">will begin in Edinburgh<\/a>, while the 2028 edition is scheduled to start in France&#8217;s Champagne region.
