21Investigates spent 52 weeks comparing prices at the South Gate Kroger, Apple Glen Walmart and Illinois Road Meijer. <\/p>\n
Since Walmart was the cheapest store most often, we decided to let that brand try and defend the title from a different location. <\/p>\n
Kroger has the most locations of any grocery store in the Summit City, so that brand stays on the roster for another year, too. <\/p>\n
In response to many viewer requests, Aldi has taken the place of Meijer. <\/p>\n
We\u2019ve got a new shopping list1 dozen eggs1lb. salted butter sticks1 46oz. bottle of orange juice – NEW1 head of lettuce – NEW1lb. of Roma tomatoes – NEW1lb. strawberries – NEW1 large avocado – NEW1lb. 80\/20 ground beef1lb. regular coffee grounds – NEW<\/p>\n
We\u2019ve kept the items from last year\u2019s list that shifted most often, and added new items that often tell us a lot about the world economy just by their price tag. <\/p>\n
We\u2019re also dumping all national brands in favor of finding the lowest possible prices with store brands, private labels and generics. <\/p>\n
