{"id":65273,"date":"2026-08-01T09:01:06","date_gmt":"2026-08-01T09:01:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/65273\/"},"modified":"2026-08-01T09:01:06","modified_gmt":"2026-08-01T09:01:06","slug":"thousands-expected-in-amsterdam-for-boisterous-worldpride-in-shadow-of-berlin-attack-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/65273\/","title":{"rendered":"Thousands Expected in Amsterdam for Boisterous WorldPride in Shadow of Berlin Attack"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Charlotte Van Campenhout<\/p>\n<p>AMSTERDAM, Aug 1 (Reuters) &#8211; Hundreds of \u2060thousands \u2060of revellers will line Amsterdam&#8217;s \u2060canals on Saturday for the flagship event of WorldPride, promising a boisterous \u200bLGBT celebration that organisers say is particularly urgent after last week&#8217;s deadly attack on Berlin&#8217;s Pride.<\/p>\n<p>Scores \u200cof boats festooned with rainbow flags \u200cand balloons are expected to cruise through the city while huge crowds in colourful outfits \u2060cheer from \u2060the bank.<\/p>\n<p>The canal parade is the annual highlight of Amsterdam Pride, which \u200bwas picked to host WorldPride this year by fellow Pride organisers from around the globe. The slogan for the two weeks of events across the Netherlands is &#8220;UNITY&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>VISIBLE AND COVERT SECURITY MEASURES<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Femke Halsema said \u200bAmsterdam would take unspecified extra measures in response to the attack in Berlin, where \u2060one person \u2060was killed and more \u2060than 30 \u200binjured when a van was driven into a crowd by a suspect later shot dead \u200bby German police.
