Mars is proposing to close its pet-food factory in Minden, Germany.<\/p>\n
In a statement sent to Just Food, a spokesperson for the Mars Pet Nutrition division said the move is\u00a0\u201cpart of regular reviews of our business operations and structure to meet the needs of our customers and consumers\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Around 110 employees at the Minden plant have been informed and would be affected if the proposal goes ahead, the spokesperson said.\u00a0<\/p>\n The company, which is part of the larger US-headquartered confectionery group, is now entering consultation with the Minden works council.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cOur priority now is to support our associates and have a meaningful consultation,\u201d\u00a0the\u00a0spokesperson said.\u00a0<\/p>\n Production at the site is expected to end by late 2026 if the plan is approved.\u00a0<\/p>\n Minden is one of two Mars Pet Nutrition factories in Germany. The other is a wet-pet-food site in Verden,\u00a0the group\u00a0confirmed with Just Food.\u00a0<\/p>\n The Minden factory mainly produces dry pet-food\u00a0brands including Perfect Fit, Crave and Pedigree, supplying more than 20 countries across Europe.\u00a0<\/p>\n If the closure goes ahead, Mars will shift production to other pet-food plants in the EU, according to the statement.\u00a0<\/p>\n Elsewhere, Mars has previously announced the expansion of its pet-food manufacturing footprint.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n In September, the company said it would\u00a0invest \u20ac1bn\u00a0($1.18bn)\u00a0in production<\/a>\u00a0and R&D during 2025 and 2026, with projects planned in France,\u00a0Poland\u00a0and Spain\u00a0<\/p>\n The company aims\u00a0to build what it called a \u201cstronger, more resilient business in Europe\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n
