{"id":66212,"date":"2026-08-03T22:08:08","date_gmt":"2026-08-03T22:08:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/66212\/"},"modified":"2026-08-03T22:08:08","modified_gmt":"2026-08-03T22:08:08","slug":"fallen-tree-crushes-cars-in-queens-as-high-winds-and-heavy-rains-batter-nyc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/66212\/","title":{"rendered":"Fallen tree crushes cars in Queens as high winds and heavy rains batter NYC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A falling tree destroyed two cars in Queens as high winds and torrential rain battered the city Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The roughly 65-foot-tall 90-year-old tree plummeted onto a silver 2003 Mercedes-Benz E-320 and a gray 2025 Hyundai Elantra parked on 86th Ave. near the Cross Island Parkway in Bellerose.<\/p>\n<p>Payal Mathur, 27, was working at her home office when she heard \u201ca big crash\u201d and looked out her window shortly before 1 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI saw the tree come right towards us,\u201d said Mathur, who owns the damaged Elantra. \u201cIt completely crushed the fence, crushed the car. (Theodore Parisienne \/ New York Daily News)<\/p>\n<p>Mathur, who was home with her father, grandfather and dog, said the tree narrowly missed crushing her house. Her car remained unreachable hours later behind a thick tangle of leaves and branches.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou got to look on the bright side,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The Mercedes owner, Roland Vergel De Dios, was in Queens visiting family when his car\u2019s rear windshield and trunk were crushed by the falling tree.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was a wind. I don\u2019t know if it\u2019s a twister. It was like a circle of wind. (Theodore Parisienne \/ New York Daily News)<\/p>\n<p>The NYC Emergency Management Department issued <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nyc.gov\/site\/weatherupdates\/index.page\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a flash flood warning<\/a> as New Yorkers endured heavy rain, scattered thunderstorms and wind gusts.<\/p>\n<p>The foul weather sent trees toppling across the city, including on the Upper West Side in Manhattan and in Woodside, Queens, where <a href=\"https:\/\/abc7ny.com\/post\/nyc-storm-damage-vehicles-crushed-trees-queens-heavy-rain-moves-tri-state-area\/19620235\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a food truck was struck by a fallen tree<\/a>, according to ABC.<\/p>\n<p>The city\u2019s Parks Department on Monday received 269 reports of damaged or fallen trees, 92 of them for downed trees, a spokeswoman for the agency said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMany of these reports may be duplicates,\u201d she said. \u201cParks forestry staff is currently reviewing incoming requests and creating work orders for storm-damaged trees.
