Siemens has been selected to provide automation solutions for the planned lithium production and geothermal energy facilities of Vulcan Energy in Germany.<\/p>\n

Vulcan Energy<\/a>\u00a0(Vulcan) has announced the signing of\u00a0 EUR 40 million project framework agreement with Siemens AG<\/a> (Siemens) for the supply of engineering, automation, telecommunications, and building technology systems for Vulcan\u2019s flagship geothermal energy and lithium production project (Lionheart) in the Upper Rhine Valley in Germany.<\/p>\n

The Lionheart project involves the construction of an integrated lithium and renewable energy project targeting a production capacity of 24,000 tonnes of lithium hydroxide monohydrate (LHM), as well as 275 GWh of renewable power and 560 GWh of heat per annum over an estimated project life of 30 years.<\/p>\n

The company had recently been granted their first permit for the commercial production of lithium<\/a> for the Lionheart project, which complements a prior permit for the commercial extraction of geothermal energy. Vulcan had also broken ground on the drilling site of their second geothermal well.<\/p>\n

The signing of the Siemens Agreement represents the final major supply agreement for Lionheart. Siemens will act as the Main Automation Contractor (MAC) for Vulcan\u2019s upstream commercial Lithium Extraction Plant in Landau, already under construction, downstream Central Lithium Plant at Industrial Park H\u00f6chst, Frankfurt, and production well sites. This will include engineering and delivery of the distributed control system, industrial network and cybersecurity infrastructure, building automation, safety systems, and associated design and lifecycle services.<\/p>\n

Siemens Financial Services is also one of the investors in Vulcan, as included in the financing package that was secured in December 2025<\/a>.<\/p>\n
