Later this month locals will get to enjoy a fun summer day and celebrate some of the area\u2019s most important history at the Jesse Owens Museum and Park with youth races and a celebrational ribbon cutting.\u00a0<\/p>\n
On August 29th, the Jesse Owens Museum and Park will celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Berlin Games and Owens\u2019 defeat of Hitler with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 1 p.m. to unveil new display items that were recently donated.\u00a0<\/p>\n
After, the museum and park will host an afternoon full of fun activities for kids with historical grounding like the 100-meter dash, the 1-mile run and long jump.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Activities are separated by age with a six and under division and a 7-12 year-olds division. The top three winners get medals. Everyone who registers gets a participation award.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The gate price will be $5, registration for youth events is no charge.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Items within the display were donated by Russ Opdahl and Justen Burns, who will both be speaking at the event.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Opdahl is a former Silicon Valley high-tech executive and has assembled one of the world’s foremost collections of Jesse Owens artifacts. Burns served in the United States Army for 20 years.
