Thousands of luxury car models are being recalled by motoring giant Mercedes-Benz following the discovery of a common electrical fault.<\/p>\n
The German prestige brand has identified an issue that may affect almost 59,000 of its vehicles sold over the past eight years.<\/p>\n
The issue centres on a manufacturing defect with a door-lock microswitch, which could fail if it suffers water damage.<\/p>\n
Should this occur, the cars may fail to notify motorists if a door is open, which in turn prevents the auto park feature from operating correctly.<\/p>\n
A vehicle recall notice has warned that this, in turn, could create a greater accident risk.<\/p>\n
\u201cA loss of auto park feature may result in unintended vehicle movement,\u201d the notice warns.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis increases the risk of an accident, causing injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users.\u201d<\/p>\n
The notice states the 58,822 vehicles manufactured between 2018 and 2026 may be affected by the issue \u2013 including some AMG models that can retail in the region of $190,000.<\/p>\n
The notice advises drivers to engage the park position on the gear selector and apply the parking brake before leaving the vehicle.<\/p>\n
Vehicle owners are encouraged to contact Mercedes-Benz in writing to schedule an appointment to have repairs carried out free of charge.<\/p>\n
