{"id":73652,"date":"2026-08-17T09:14:16","date_gmt":"2026-08-17T09:14:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/73652\/"},"modified":"2026-08-17T09:14:16","modified_gmt":"2026-08-17T09:14:16","slug":"police-bust-cybercrime-ring-accused-of-stealing-e30-million-in-four-day-spree","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/73652\/","title":{"rendered":"Police bust cybercrime ring accused of stealing \u20ac30 million in four-day spree"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>German and Brazilian police dismantled an international <a href=\"https:\/\/www.helpnetsecurity.com\/2026\/07\/06\/key-payment-fraud-trends-report\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">bank fraud<\/a> ring blamed for a \u20ac30 million cyberattack on a German financial institution, arresting four people in Brazil and pursuing three more suspects in Spain and Bulgaria.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/germany\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/arrest-650.webp\" class=\"aligncenter\" alt=\"Germany bank fraud ring\" title=\"Arrest\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Brazilian police named the operation \u201cKlonen.\u201d On August 13, agents executed 21 search-and-seizure warrants across seven cities, including Rio de Janeiro, Goi\u00e2nia, and Guarulhos.<\/p>\n<p>The case traces back to late 2023, when attackers exploited a flaw in the booking process of a German payment service provider.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe extensive, multi-year investigation initially focused on the technical processes behind the booking procedures and financial transactions. According to current findings, the internationally organized perpetrators directly exploited a vulnerability in the booking process caused by a faulty software update. This vulnerability enabled numerous unauthorized withdrawals within a timeframe of just four days,\u201d German authorities <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bka.de\/DE\/Presse\/Listenseite_Pressemitteilungen\/2026\/Presse2026\/260814_PM_Ermittlungserfolge_Computerbetrug.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe extent of the damage is in the millions,\u201d they added.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators say the group ran the stolen funds through a criminal fraud network, sending most of the money to Brazil, where it was cashed out after several attempts to hide its trail.
