A cyberattack on two Berlin state Senate departments has been detected. The attempted unauthorized intrusion was discovered during a forensic review of the systems, the Berlin Senate Chancellery reported on August 17.<\/p>\n
The attack affected the department responsible for urban development, construction and housing, as well as the department responsible for mobility, transport, the environment and climate protection.<\/p>\n
Berlin departments disconnected from the digital network<\/p>\n
For security reasons, both institutions were isolated from the State of Berlin\u2019s digital network on August 14. Authorities disclosed information about the incident only on August 17.<\/p>\n
The Berlin Senate Chancellery stressed that the departments had not ceased operations. However, to prevent the threat from spreading further, their access to external networks was significantly restricted.<\/p>\n
Since the evening of August 14, the institutions have had no internet connection. Employees have also been temporarily barred from carrying out their official duties remotely.<\/p>\n
