A cyberattack targeting two Berlin Senate departments was detected during a forensic examination of their systems, the Berlin Senate Chancellery said on August 17. <\/p>\n
The attack affected the department responsible for urban development, construction and housing, as well as the department responsible for mobility, transport, the environment and climate protection, Mezha.net\u00a0<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n For security reasons, both institutions were isolated from the State of Berlin\u2019s<\/a> digital network on August 14. Authorities disclosed information about the incident only on August 17.<\/p>\n The Berlin Senate Chancellery stressed that the departments had not ceased operations. However, to prevent the threat from spreading further, their access to external networks was significantly restricted.<\/p>\n Since the evening of August 14, the institutions have had no internet connection. Employees have also been temporarily barred from carrying out their official duties remotely.<\/p>\n German media report that the attackers may have stolen some information during the attack. Authorities have not yet disclosed exactly which data may have been compromised or the possible scale of the breach.<\/p>\n Cybersecurity specialists continue to analyze the systems of the two Berlin departments. They need to determine the scale of the cyberattack, identify possible entry points, and assess which digital resources may have been compromised.<\/p>\n
