Just 50 golfers remain alive in the PGA Tour FedEx Cup Playoffs, 49 of whom will be chasing World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler at this week’s BMW Championship. That’s after Scheffler’s dominant eight-stroke victory at the FedEx St. Jude Championship last week. He\u2019s also the defending champion at this week\u2019s event\u2014because, of course\u2014after a two-stroke victory when it was held a year ago at Caves Valley.<\/p>\n
The only pro to jump into the top 50 and qualify for the BMW after a strong TPC Southwind showing was Sungjae Im, whose T-5 finish vaulted him into No. 40 and another PGA Tour event. Including Scheffler, we\u2019re set to see all top-10 players in the World Rankings tee it up at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis (Rory McIlroy, Cameron Young, Matt Fitzpatrick, Tommy Fleetwood, Russell Henley, Sam Burns, Wyndham Clark, Chris Gotterup and Xander Schauffele). Other notable names floating around the FedEx Cup bubble line (top 30 after the BMW advance to East Lake and the Tour Championship) include Rickie Fowler, Gary Woodland, Bud Cauley and Kurt Kitayama. It\u2019s also worth mentioning that Adam Scott is the only golfer teeing off this week to have played in both the 2018 PGA Championship and the 2008 BMW Championship at Bellerive. He\u2019s No. 27, so he\u2019s right around the cut line, as well.<\/p>\n
Scheffler will have a chance to become the first golfer to go back-to-back at the BMW Championship since Patrick Cantlay in 2021-22. Down four strokes to start the final 18, Scheffler\u2019s three-under 67 was more than to best Robert MacIntyre by two shots. That win clinched five victories on the season for Scheffler, making him the first golfer since Tiger Woods (in 2006 and 2007) to win that many times on tour in consecutive seasons.<\/p>\n
This week\u2019s winner will receive a $3.6 million cut of the $20 million purse and 750 FedEx Cup points.<\/p>\n
