The Mercedes-Benz G-Class has always been this untouchable icon that all other carmakers could only dream of. The Gelandewagen combines luxury, on-road performance, and unparalleled off-road capabilities. After BMW promised to build a G-Class rival, Lincoln joins the bandwagon.<\/p>\n

The Lincoln G-Class-wannabe should hit dealerships by the end of the decade with a price that might be way below what Mercedes-Benz asks for its boxy SUV. The base G-Class<\/a>, the G 550, powered by a 3.0-liter inline-six, producing 443 horsepower (449 metric horsepower) and 413 pound-feet (560 Newton meters) of torque, is a $153,900 deal.<\/p>\n

At the opposite end of the lineup sits the almighty Mercedes-AMG G 63, whch is set in motion by the hand-built 4.0-liter biturbo V8, pumping out 577 horsepower (485 metric horsepower) and 627 pound-feet (850 Newton meters) of torque. That is what customers get for a starting price of $198,750.<\/p>\n

The high-performance off-roader can do 0 to 60 mph (0 to 97 kph) in 4.2 seconds and max out at 155 mph (250 kph), which is supercar territory, wrapped up in the shape of an angular brick. So, this is what a Lincoln-branded luxury off-roader will have to deal with.<\/p>\n

Two people familiar with the matter revealed to The Detroit Free Press that the future luxury off-roader would be priced even below the Lincoln Navigator, the most expensive of the brand\u2019s lineup, starting at $89,995, with the destination fee not included.<\/p>\n

Vice president of global vehicle forecasting at AutoForecast Solutions, Sam Fiorani, says the firm has a program code and a timing for it. “We are expecting it, with production starting in late summer 2029, to be built to the next Bronco,” Fiorani revealed.<\/p>\n

This means that it might as well roll off the same production line with the Bronco<\/a>, at the Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne, Detroit. The information about the arrival of the G-Class rival has also been confirmed by another dealer who asked not to be named.<\/p>\n

The same dealer said that the future model would be a very high-end vehicle that would probably fit in right under the Navigator. “Could start at $70,000.” That would basically be half of what Mercedes is currently asking for its base G-Class.<\/p>\n

In a conversation<\/a> with The Detroit Free Press, Ford spokesman Dave Tovar refused to comment on any speculation about potential future products. If the model IS coming, it will join the three Lincoln-badged models: the Nautilus, the Aviator, and the Navigator.<\/p>\n

Even though it is still present in the online configurator, the entry-level model, the Corsair, has been discontinued, along with its Ford sibling, the Escape compact SUV.
