Capitalizing on the Bruins\u2019 current Germanic flavor, the NHL and NHLPA announced Thursday morning that the B\u2019s will play two regular-season games in Munich at the SAP Garden in the 2027-28 season as part of the 2027 Global Series. It will be the first time that city has hosted NHL regular season competition.<\/p>\n
The Bruins are led by head coach and former German national team coach Marco Sturm, who is set to begin his second season with Boston. They also have newcomer JJ Peterka, obtained in the offseason, and Lukas Reichel, who will be vying for a spot in the lineup as well in next month\u2019s training camp. All are German natives and Peterka and Reichel both represented Germany at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe 2027 NHL Global Series games in Germany present an incredible opportunity for the Bruins organization to build on our longstanding connection with fans around the world,\u201d Boston Bruins CEO Charlie Jacobs said in a statement. \u201cWe look forward to representing the Bruins and the city of Boston at one of the National Hockey League\u2019s marquee events and engaging with our passionate fan base in Munich, across Germany and beyond.\u201d<\/p>\n

This will be the second time that the Bruins will play regular-season games in Europe and fans would love a history repeat. They opened the 2010-11 season in Prague, Czechia, a season that ended with them winning the Stanley Cup. Before taking that trip to Czechia, the Bruins also played an exhibition game in Belfast, Northern Ireland.<\/p>\n
The Bruins also played two preseason games in China in 2018 against the Calgary Flames. These trips are short compared to the 23-game European tour it went on with the New York Rangers in the spring of 1959.<\/p>\n
The NHL is now sinking its teeth into the burgeoning hockey market in Germany. The Edmonton Oilers and their German superstar Leon Draisaitl will also be playing two games in Germany as part the 2027 Global Series.
